The school held many fund-raising events to get enough money to buy the fabric from which the dancers' costumes were made. Carmen Lyra Ceremonies Aug 10, 2009 On their trip to Costa Rica in early August of 2009, a delegation of ten from the Peninsula Rotary Club attended a dedication ceremony for the Carmen Lyra project, a joint project of the Peninsula Club and the Escazu Club of Costa Rica.  View 
On Tuesday morning before going to the airport, the Peninsula Club treated the Escazu hosts--those who had taken us into their homes--to breakfast at Casa de las Tias, an outstanding bed-and-breakfast that we had discovered several years ago. Schooner Alliance On October 18, 2008, members of the Peninsula Rotary Club and their families took a cruise on the schooner Alliance from Yorktown's Riverwalk Landing. We sailed on the York River with good food and fellowship--the weather was gray, but the mood was not.  View

Carmen Lyra Renovation Our partner club in Costa Rica, the Escazu Rotary Club, has done much at the Carmen Lyra School besides our joint sewage treatment project. Their work helped to change the attitude of the school administration, and led to a government grant for some additional rehabilitation. The school then went from "the dirtiest school in the valley" to a winner of a national award for their caring for the environment and caring for the children's well-being. RSVP 2009 On March 18th the Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Virginia Peninsula held its annual appreciation luncheon honoring volunteers aged 80 and over. Members of the Peninsula Rotary Club assembled the meals onto plates, and the Interact Club of Peninsula Catholic High School served the meals to the seniors present. Peninsula Rotary participates in this luncheon each year--the idea is that for one day we will serve for those who have served others each day except this one.  View 
The breakout teams each presented their work to the reassembled seminar. The Richard Summerville Leadership Seminar Sponsored by five local Rotary Clubs and the CNU Rotaract Club, the Richard Summerville Leadership Seminar at CNU was set up to provide leadership training to university students.  View 
Installation of Officers 2009, Colonial Downs On July 12, 2009 the 2009-2010 slate of officers was sworn in during a ceremony at Colonial Downs racetrack. We had good food, good fellowship, good weather, good racing, and some people won some money.  View
