This is the Flag Ceremony at the Opening Plenary Session of the 2010 Rotary International Convention, held in a vast hockey arena in two shifts. In this photo, the stage is in the center; above it are video screens, and surrounding the stage--in the dark and hard to see--are thousands of Rotarians. The convention was truly international. This is a random photo taken in the lobby of the convention building--just a glance at the clothing and the facial features will tell you that this is a cosmopolitan gathering. The Peninsula Club presented the Carmen Lyra project, done in partnership with the Escazu Club in Costa Rica, as one of the convention's 90-minute breakout sessions. Of the 51 breakout sessions, this was the only one presenting a single international project. The question-and-answer period after the presentation was lively, and continued until we had to vacate the room for the next breakout. 120 people attended the breakout. Montreal is definitely a modern city.
Montreal is definitely an old city. This photo was taken near Diane and Drew Hagemann's hotel. ...and Montreal has vitality. This is Rue Prince Arthur, a pedestrian street around the corner from Ray's bed-and-breakfast. There are shops, sidewalk cafes, street buskers, and lots of life. Montreal has its own mountain in the middle of the city. It is called Mount Royal--or to translate it into French, Mont-Real. This is the view from the top.
