Album Name: A visit to An Achievable Dream Return to Albums

Description: On April 19th, as school was getting starting, several Rotarians of the Peninsula Rotary Club visited An Achievable Dream Academy on 16th Street in Newport News. An Achievable Dream is a unique, nationally-recognized organization with the goal of taking "at risk" students and giving them not only an education, but also a set of values and a set of social skills to put them on a path toward becoming successful and productive members of society.

Peninsula Rotarians took part in a morning ritual at the school--shaking hands with students as they come in from busses. Looking someone in the eye, saying Rotarians were given an orientation by Cathy Edwards, President and CEO of An Achievable Dream. Students start each school day with a session in the gymnasium.   Students recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the natinal anthem, chant their
Kelly Strycharz, at the right, led the school tour. In etiquette class, students are taught manners, courtesy, and proper behavior in society. Other classes that go beyond the normal academic fields include conflict resolution, ethics, and financial know-how.  These classes are in addition to the standard school curriculum.
